PorchReads helps readers organize books, track reading activity, save notes and quotes, build personal lists, and discover books. By accessing or using the Service, you agree to these Terms.

1 Acceptance and Ownership

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of PorchReads, including its website, accounts, profiles, book libraries, reading trackers, lists, reviews, notes, quotes, highlights, achievements, ISBN tools, import features, recommendations, content, and related services collectively referred to as the “Service.”

PorchReads is owned and operated by Unknown Consulting, LLC. References in these Terms to “PorchReads,” “we,” “us,” or “our” refer to Unknown Consulting, LLC and the PorchReads Service.

By accessing or using the Service, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy.

If you do not agree with these Terms, do not access or use the Service.

2 About the Service

PorchReads provides tools that allow users to organize and track their reading activity. Features may include:

  • Tracking books you are reading, completed, paused, or want to read.
  • Creating personal book lists and collections.
  • Recording reading progress, ratings, reviews, notes, quotes, and highlights.
  • Saving favorite books, authors, genres, and recommendations.
  • Tracking books you own, want to buy, or have lent to another person.
  • Scanning ISBN barcodes and searching for book information.
  • Importing book information from supported third-party services.
  • Earning achievements or viewing reading statistics.

We may add, remove, restrict, modify, or discontinue features at any time. The availability of a feature does not guarantee that it will remain available permanently.

PorchReads does not sell books and is not a bookseller, publisher, library, literary agent, or professional book-review service.

3 Accounts and Eligibility

You must create an account to use certain features. When creating or using an account, you agree to:

  • Provide accurate and current registration information.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of your password and login credentials.
  • Accept responsibility for activity conducted through your account.
  • Notify us if you believe your account has been accessed without authorization.
  • Avoid impersonating another person or creating an account using false information.

You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may use the Service only with the permission and supervision of a parent or legal guardian.

Unknown Consulting, LLC may reject, restrict, suspend, or terminate an account that contains false information, violates these Terms, creates a security risk, or appears to be associated with unlawful or abusive activity.

4 User Content

“User Content” includes reviews, ratings, notes, reading updates, progress information, lists, collections, quotes, highlights, profile information, comments, photographs, and any other information or materials you submit through the Service.

You retain any ownership rights you have in your User Content.

By submitting User Content, you grant Unknown Consulting, LLC a nonexclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, process, format, modify for display, transmit, distribute, and display that content as reasonably necessary to operate, maintain, secure, promote, and improve the Service.

This license includes permission to display User Content on your profile, public book pages, activity feeds, shared lists, search results, recommendations, social-sharing previews, and other PorchReads features based on the privacy settings you select.

You represent that you have the legal right and authority to submit your User Content and that it does not violate another person’s privacy, copyright, trademark, contractual, or other legal rights.

Copyrighted excerpts and quotations

You may save brief quotations or excerpts for personal reference when permitted by applicable law. You may not upload or distribute entire books, substantial portions of books, unauthorized electronic copies, or other material that infringes a copyright holder’s rights.

You are solely responsible for determining whether your use of a quote, excerpt, cover image, review, or other material is lawful.

5 Public Content and Sharing

Certain profiles, reviews, ratings, lists, reading activity, quotes, collections, or other content may be public or shareable depending on the Service’s available visibility settings.

Public content may be viewed, copied, shared, archived, or indexed by search engines and other third parties.

Information previously made public may remain available in search-engine caches, screenshots, archives, or third-party records after you delete it or change its visibility.

You are responsible for reviewing and managing your profile, library, lists, reading activity, and content-visibility settings.

Do not publicly share private contact information, passwords, financial information, government identification numbers, precise home addresses, or other highly sensitive information.

6 Book Data and ISBN Features

Book titles, authors, covers, ISBNs, descriptions, publication dates, publishers, page counts, editions, genres, and related metadata may come from public datasets, publishers, retailers, libraries, third-party APIs, user submissions, or other external sources.

Book metadata may be incomplete, inaccurate, duplicated, outdated, or associated with the wrong title or edition.

ISBN scans and searches may return multiple editions or no result. A successful barcode scan does not guarantee that the returned record exactly matches the physical or digital book in your possession.

Cover images, descriptions, trademarks, and other third-party materials remain the property of their respective owners. Their appearance on PorchReads does not imply sponsorship, endorsement, or affiliation.

You should independently verify important book information directly with the publisher, author, library, bookseller, or another authoritative source before relying on it.

7 Imports and Third-Party Accounts

The Service may allow you to import book records, ratings, shelves, reading history, or related information from Goodreads or other third-party services.

You may import only information that belongs to you or that you are otherwise legally authorized to use.

Imported information may be incomplete, duplicated, improperly formatted, associated with a different edition, or unavailable because of changes made by the third-party service.

Unknown Consulting, LLC does not control third-party export formats, APIs, account systems, security practices, or service availability. We do not guarantee that an import will include every record or preserve every field exactly as it appeared on the originating service.

PorchReads is not affiliated with or endorsed by Goodreads unless expressly stated otherwise. Third-party names and trademarks belong to their respective owners.

8 Acceptable Use

You may use PorchReads only for lawful purposes. You may not:

  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to another account or restricted area.
  • Impersonate another person, author, publisher, bookseller, or organization.
  • Create fraudulent accounts or submit false or misleading information.
  • Use automated systems to scrape, crawl, harvest, or copy Service data without written permission.
  • Upload malware, malicious code, viruses, or other harmful material.
  • Interfere with the operation, availability, security, or performance of the Service.
  • Harass, threaten, stalk, abuse, or dox another person.
  • Post unlawful, defamatory, discriminatory, deceptive, or infringing content.
  • Upload complete books, pirated files, or unauthorized copyrighted material.
  • Use the Service to distribute spam, unauthorized advertising, or deceptive links.
  • Reproduce, republish, sell, license, or commercially exploit Service content without permission.
  • Use Service data to create or populate a competing book database or reading platform.

9 Intellectual Property

Except for User Content and third-party materials, the Service and its original branding, design, logos, text, graphics, source code, software, interfaces, databases, organization, features, and other materials are owned by or licensed to Unknown Consulting, LLC and are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws.

You may use the Service for your personal, noncommercial use.

You may not copy, reproduce, republish, sell, license, modify, distribute, reverse engineer, create derivative works from, or commercially exploit protected Service content without prior written authorization.

Copyright complaints

If you believe material available through the Service infringes your copyright or other intellectual-property rights, contact us and provide enough information to identify:

  • The protected work or material.
  • The allegedly infringing content.
  • The location of the content on PorchReads.
  • Your contact information.
  • The basis for your complaint.

10 Third-Party Services and Links

The Service may contain information, links, integrations, images, metadata, or functionality supplied by third-party websites, APIs, libraries, publishers, retailers, authentication providers, and other external services.

Unknown Consulting, LLC does not own or control these third parties and is not responsible for their content, accuracy, availability, products, pricing, security, terms, privacy practices, or conduct.

The inclusion of third-party content or a link does not necessarily constitute an endorsement, partnership, certification, or recommendation.

Your use of a third-party website or service is at your own risk and is governed by that third party’s separate terms and policies.

11 Privacy

Our Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect personal information. By using the Service, you acknowledge that policy.

PorchReads is currently presented as an ad-free service. Unknown Consulting, LLC does not sell your personal information to third-party data brokers.

You remain responsible for personal information you voluntarily make public or share with other users or third-party services.

12 Availability and Service Changes

Unknown Consulting, LLC may modify, add, remove, restrict, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time, with or without notice.

We do not guarantee that the Service, a particular feature, book record, integration, import option, recommendation, achievement, or user-created item will always remain available.

The Service may experience maintenance, interruptions, technical problems, security incidents, data-provider outages, or circumstances outside our reasonable control.

You should maintain independent copies or backups of information that is particularly important to you.

  1. The amount you paid directly to Unknown Consulting, LLC for use of the Service during the 12 months preceding the event giving rise to the claim; or
  2. One hundred dollars ($100).

Some jurisdictions do not permit certain warranty exclusions or liability limitations. In those jurisdictions, these provisions apply only to the maximum extent permitted by law.

When an account is deleted, public content associated with the account may be removed or anonymized. Certain information may remain temporarily in backups, caches, security records, or third-party search indexes.

Unknown Consulting, LLC may restrict, suspend, or terminate an account if we reasonably believe:

  • The user violated these Terms or applicable law.
  • The account contains false or misleading information.
  • The account is associated with infringement, fraud, harassment, spam, or abuse.
  • The account creates a security, legal, technical, or operational risk.
